RalliSport Challenge 3

Now with the recent Xbox 360 unvieling at the ridiculously worthless MTV event a couple of days ago (look at the OurColony video here for a much better presentation) there have been quite a lot of speculation on what games are coming to the new console. One of the games that was announced was Project Gotham Racing 3 which caused enthusiastic speculation that RalliSport Challenge 3 also was in development.

As far as I know, as one of the developers on both RalliSport Challenge 1 and 2 here at DICE, that isn't the case. At least not at DICE since we are more or less a part of EA now and they aren't that big on platform exclusive titles (or titles that sell less than one million copies). But since Microsoft owns the RalliSport IP they can develop the game themselves or let another studio do it for them. That would be kinda cool and interesting to look at but I doubt it will happen since RSC2 unfortunately wasn't really a commercial hit for them.

For all RalliSport and Xbox 360 fans I've dug up a couple of high-resolution development screenshots (720p with really good antialiasing) of RSC2 so you could get a glimpse of what RalliSport Challenge 3 on Xbox 360 might have looked like at a minimum. If we would do a sequel on Xbox 360 it would look a lot better than this tough, trust me..

Nice! The Rallisport franchise is simply brilliant. Both titles are definitley some of the most visually stunning ever. Even today, and compared to these next gen screens of other games floating around, I still think Rallisport II holds up. I have my fingers crossed for Rallisport 3!

COME ON MAN - DICE - GET BUSY - WE WANT RALLISPORT CHALLENGE 3 ON XBOX

I'd just like to say that I love RSC2. If you recognize the gamertag then you'll know who I am. I dominate the online play and challenges mode of the game on xbox live. It is simply out of love for the game. Your team did a fantastic job on the graphics and physics in this title. Your countless losses to Burnout 3 are simply based on mass ignorance toward your terrific title.

I've written several articles on why it is unlikely that we'll see any sort of RSC3. MSGS isn't exactly known for handing out IP's. What I would like to know about is any games that your specific team might be developing in the future using technology and programming gained from the experience of building RSC2. In other words, will the RSC2 physics engine land itself in any of the future EA games?

The Drift King is a cheating little bastard. "I dominate the online play and challenges mode of the game on xbox live." YEAH, BECAUSE YOU CHEAT.

The real "owners" of this game are Wait 4 Me, MUSASHI M & Myself. You aint got NaDa TDk......Oh, where you been on forza Motorsport BIG DOG ?? Cant handle a REAL racing game huh ? Its ok.

What with Bungies announcement that Halo 1 and 2 will run in 720p w/ FSAA on the xbox 360, do you think there is any chance Rallisport 2 will be upgraded too?

RSC2 is and will be forever the best rally game, colin mcrae pffft richard burns no!
RSC2 king of rally games, let's all hope there is a third in the series.

Oh many comments, thanks you guys. Let me try answer some:

The Drift King: The RSC2 team merged together with parts of the BF2 team and we are now together developing a major next-generation title with the collective experience from both games. The game is not official yet tough so can't talk about it, except to say that it will be awesome :)

Richard @ HDBeat.com: We don't have any control over how Microsoft ports Xbox1 games to Xbox 360 unfortuantely. Last time I looked they didn't support RSC2 at all, they probably focus on first porting games that sold well

That sure is sad to see such an awesome series simply fade away. Even with its loyal and rabid fanbase. I truly hope that Microsoft will either take its time and create a well cratfed and matured sequal with or without the collaboration of EA and or DICE.
Good luck on all your future projects, Rallisport Challenge was fantastic!!

I absolutely LOVE Rallisport Challenge 2. It turned me on to racing games and is still the only game in my library that I still play avidly. I have checked for the past year for any hope of a third and really hope that there is some rally game out there made (hopefully by you guys) that even comes close to the extreme awesomeness afforded by RSC2.

Bought the game (Rallisport 2) from the bargain bins 4-5 months orso ago, and absolutely LOVE it. Gameplay is absolutely brilliant and addictive. Graphics and especially the level design is just top-class.

It's my favourite racing-game of all time, and I've been playing racing games since Formula 1 and Test Drive on the Commodore 64.

The ONLY think I felt was missing was that there were no asian countries to race through, like some nice Japan levels...

So I'm very very sad to learn that there will not be a Rallisport Challenge 3 by DICE. :(

It's a shame that EA doesnt realize the potential. Many gamers have since picked this game up for a bargain price, and most of them love the game. They would buy a pt 3 without a doubt. It's one of those games that has won a huge following due to great word of mouth. (like Ninja Gaiden Black, Psychonauts, Beyond Good and evil, etc)

If there wont be a Rallisport 3, is there any way to make Rallisport 2 work on the 360?
It's not backwards compatible yet, is it?

Or EA should just allow a small group of employees to port over rallisport 2, and just upgrading the graphics and stuff. I would most definately buy Rallisport 2 for 360 (possibly for budgetprice, just so they can build a huge audience for a potential pt 3, which I'm sure will follow when EA release a good quality remake of pt2. for 360)

Anyway, it's a brilliant game, and like I said, my favourite racing game of all time.
So I at least thank you for that, and hope that one day there will be a pt3. :)

When i bought my xbox my first game that i purchased wasen't halo or PGR with (respect). No, it was rallisport challenge 2 one of the greatest rally games no, wait, one of the best racing games on any platform including GT series and Forza. If you havent given RSC2 10 minutes of your time then you wont know what i am talking about. There is no flaw in that game especially the graphics i dont know how did dice made such a game out of the xbox hardware not saying it was bad for its time but the game looked next gen. There are only two other games that had the look of next gen on the xbox other than RSC2 and those were probably Ninja Gaiden and Halo 2.

say it ain't so...

Faaaaarrrrrke!!!!!!!!!!

I bought rallymasters on a whim - never heard of it, never saw a mag review. It was bloody brilliant. It changed my gaming world forever. I spent years playing that game - I still take it out for a spin occassionally. Then I bought Rallysport challenge, it was fun too. I'm not a huge colsole fan, but when RCS2 came out, I had to specifically go out an purchase the XBOX just so that I could play it. At the moment, I have no plans to buy an xbox 360, but I would if RSC3 came out on it.

At least now I have a good media player now (XBMC).

DICE, I love you guys. Long live Rallysport Challenge.

i first brought rallispot challenge im sure on PC played it loads, after buying a xbox i see rallisport challenge 2 was out this was one of the first games i brought after buying this also brought the first one for the xbox and have to say im not a big console person but now the only game i play is rsc2 its an amazing game.
the only reason i came across this site was searching for the compatibility of this game and the xbox 360 as i was thinking of buying a 360 but it looks like there is no point to buying a 360 if rsc2 does not work on it.

rsc2 is probably the best game ive ever played and if it dont work on a 360 and there is not going to be a rsc3 then there is no point to a 360 until they realise a game to match this.

Hey some of you guys know who I am. I'm gonna have to agree with Greenbuds, The Drift King is a cheating little bastard, and let's not forget that prick Red Bullet (7 years old and already an asshole). Anyway I would love a new Rallisport game but it doesn't look like we're gonna get one so if they would just make Rallisport 2 backwards compatible it would please a ton of people. I recommend everyone drop an email to them asking for it to happen, hopefully they won't ignore a whole bunch of letters from people, they claim to read every one every day. backcomp@microsoft.com

I for one stil think of Rallysport Challenge 2 as the best racing game I've ever played. I hate the "simulation" games, and the Project Gotham and Burnout series aren't realistic enough for me. I miss Rallysport like crazy and would pay twice the price for a Rallysport 3.

Hello all/anyone,

Having just traded my car in for a PS3 (yes no kidding but no worried I bought another) I have been playing Dirt and GT5P avidly for some time.

Now that I'm at a point where I see the games potential, GT5P is fantastic for it's 1080i/p and it's realism. Dirt is great for its sounds and 720p. both the above games seriously lack in tracks. I don't care if I have 100 cars to choose from if they all suck. GT5P holds its own but damn I guess at that resolution they could only pack in a few tracks on that blue ray disc holding what is it? 30 something gigs? Doesn't make any cents. Dirt is good for a distraction. It's a fun game but it's speed to gameplay is just wacked. where is the refinement? it's just at teh extremem all the time from the gas pedal to the brake.

So enough of the posers. (sorry GT) Rallysport challenge 2 is hands down still #1. The combination between realism and arcade is perfect. yes all you realism gamers scoff at this title but to the rest of us that like to have fun while racing this is where it's at. The sheer ammount is tracks makes it a serious challenge to memorize. The cars (don't care how many as long as they are good) are decent in choice and evolution.

The graphix are great especially considering how many different tracks there are. Honestly, is there any other game that has this ammount of tracks and level of detail and gameplay in the racing genre? and if anyone of you says yes have you raced the full Diablo in Rallysport Challenge 2?

Is there any other game that can compare to this track?

I've been into racing games since the first Road and Track Need for Speed which I have to say had amazing AI for it's time and is the only game that I'm aware that had the be havior of daily drivers down pat. What ever happened to that? Driving down Alpine with a Ferrari at 240 and having some sunday driver cut you off was where it was at!

Anyhoo, I've rented/bought everything new with the new consoles and I have to say that Rallysport challenge 2 is still the best racing game ever. GT5P is on an entirely new level and also worth the time but will wear out much faster than Rallysport Challenge 2.

Man, I miss that game so much too, i had a huge addiction to halo 2 at the time and I still played the crap out of RC2, man it sucks that people didnt get the advertisement they should of got other wise this game would be on the 360 already or a 3rd, DAMN i miss that game riding pass the trees with leaves flying up is jsut mindboggling on the xbox, i would definitly buy the 3rd for the double price of anyother. /cry /cry im so serious its sad that i can't play it anymore

xStickymanx said...

This is xStickymanx. I would agree with big jay and greenbuds about drift king and I also agree with big jay about making rsc2 backwards compatible. Even though two teams are merging together to make a game similar to rsc2, I dont think it will be alike because of the fact that its two teams merging. It should be the exact same team. RSC2 was by far the best racing game ever. Most of the physics of the game were fine. In my opinion, you dont want to make the driving really realistic, it was fun having that arcade feel to the driving. so last but no least....again, I agree with big jay, make rsc2 backwards compatible so I dont have to bust out the indestuctible origianl xbox to play it

That's depressing. Rallisport Challenge was one of the first racing games I could really get into and 2 of my all time favorite tracks from ANY racing game are from Rallisport 2. The first course in the normal point to point section and the Diablo course with the rain. I apologize, I am bad with names...
And timing. This was posted over 3 years ago...
I was playing GRID for the DS (good buy) and that got me to playing PGR3 for the 360 so now I'm going to have to play Rallisport 2 again... and probably again.. and again again cause ever since I first played that game, I haven't been able to enjoy another one.
i.e. I'm currently trying to recreate some of the Rallisport 2 tracks on GRID for the DS's amazing track editor. I'll post the schematics on gamefaqs.com's board after I'm done. Only problem is it doesn't seem to have the option of doing a point to point so I might start with the rallycross tracks first...

Anyways, It's pretty depressing to know that you guys aren't making another. You didn't just rock at making levels. The cars were amazing, and you made a game that was 4 PLAYER!!! Nobody does that anymore...
Thank you.

Rallisport Challenge 2

i never understand microsoft or any of the big publishers with their promises and never keeping them, quote all xbox games will be backwards compatible with the new console, so you buy the new console, wait for the updates hoping your game would be next, but once they got you by the golden balls, they up arms and say no more updates. many a crime has been had with so many games..

yes even in 2008 i still wish it was available!

enough ranting simply this game has not been bettered.

It may be a bit late to say this, especially seeing that we won't see any Rally Sport Challenge 3.
But I have to say that even today it is still the most fun Rally game that I have ever played bar none. I played the first one on PC and bought an XBox just to play the second part. And it was worth it! I don't know how many hours I clocked into the game...

Another amazing feat that the game pulled off was the fact that my friend played it.
Now my friend usually plays games like Civilization 4, or Rome Total War or Europa universalis
But... this game I could not get him away from. He refused to hand back the controller after having a go at the career mode. And thus he completed it coming over to my place periodically playing this game and having beer with me. Good memories. Amazing game.

Rallisport Challenge 2 - FOREVER! (in spirit)

PLEASE START A NEW RALLY FRANCHISE WITH THE OLD DICE TEAM!!!!

It's August 2010 and STILL no racing game compares to Rallisport Challenge 2. Full stop!

The physics of RS2 were an absolutely amazing blend of realism and fun. I have a STACK of racing games that I've collected over the years Grid, Dirt, Dirt 2, Forza 1-2-3, PGR 2-3-4 - just trying to find something that would come close to RS2 and nothing compares!!!!!

The DICE team responsible for RSC2 just got it right and I would pay triple the price of a standard game title to experience that mojo again!!!!

Look, I get it. The old franchise is tied up legally with EA and 'they' are all tied up working on Madden/Tiger/FIFA and other shyte. (apologies)

I also understand that it ALL comes down to money - because game development is very expensive and you don't invest in something without the expectation of results.

Fine, you want results? Get the old RSC2 DICE team back together and release a NEW rally game franchise with the old gameplay physics, track design and indescribably perfect 'mojo' of RSC2 and BLOW EVERYONE ELSE'S DOORS OFF!!!!

I can't be more clear that NO ONE in the current crop of racing developers 'gets it' like the DICE team did with RS2 and a racing title by that group today would IMHO absolutely be a hit!

Let's get the old band back together and ROCK THIS!

Keeping the hope alive............xbox gamertag: Q is here

I still play Rallisport Challenge 2 and even now hope that there will be a follow up. It is the best driving game I have played...period. It's 2011 for crying out loud, and there isn't a single racing game that has come close. It had the best physics, lots of tracks, great cars, etc., etc. I spent countless hours doing time trials on Jacknife with a friend. THIS SUCKS. I want another Rallisport Challenge.
